Privacy Policy: Ruby

Ruby: College Study Planner ("Ruby", "we", "us") is a study planner for iPhone and iPad made by Sthavar P S. This policy explains what information Ruby handles, where it goes and the choices you have.
The short version
- Your study data (courses, timetable, tasks, attendance, goals, focus history) stays on your device and in your own private iCloud. We never receive it.
- Sign in with Apple and iCloud give you the full Ruby experience. A signed-in account is needed to keep Ruby in sync across iPhone and iPad.
- We don't store your study data on our servers, show ads, use analytics or track you.
- Subscription management uses the limited purchase and device information described below. It does not receive your study data.
1. Information stored on your device
Ruby stores the following on your device so the app works:
- your profile details (name you enter, degree, college, semester dates);
- courses, class times and timetables;
- assignments, exams, roadmap steps and the teacher messages you paste or import;
- attendance marks (only if you turn attendance on);
- goals, focus sessions, rewards and settings.
We can't see any of this information.
2. iCloud sync
To keep Ruby in sync across your iPhone and iPad, sign in with Apple in Ruby and use the same Apple Account for iCloud on each device. Ruby syncs your data through your own private iCloud database. Only you can access that database. Apple's Privacy Policy covers iCloud: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
3. Sign in with Apple
When you sign in, Apple gives Ruby an anonymous identifier and, if you allow it, your name and email address (or a private relay address).
- Your name and email are stored only in your device's Keychain. They are never sent to us.
- If you subscribe, Ruby sends a scrambled, one-way code made from the identifier (never the identifier itself) to our subscription provider. This lets your subscription follow you to a new device.
Without sign-in, cross-device sync and account-linked features are unavailable.
4. Subscriptions (Ruby Pro)
Apple handles all payments. Ruby never sees your card or payment details.
To check whether you have Ruby Pro, we use a subscription management service. It receives:
- an anonymous customer ID (or the scrambled code described above);
- your Ruby purchase history (plan, price, trial, renewal, cancellation and refund dates);
- basic technical details: device model, iOS version, app version, country, language and IP address.
The subscription service processes this information to confirm and manage your subscription. It doesn't receive your study data, name or email. We can see your subscription status and purchase history so we can help with support requests.
5. Permissions
Ruby only asks for a permission when you use the feature that needs it. Every permission is optional, and you can change it at any time in iOS Settings.

6. Reading screenshots, documents and messages
Text in screenshots, photos, scans and PDFs is recognised on your device. Ruby's suggestions (such as task steps) are also created on your device, using Apple's on-device models where your device supports them. None of this content is sent to us or to any third party. Ruby never opens links, sends messages or contacts anyone based on what you import.
7. Backups
You can export a backup file from Profile → Settings → Data & privacy. The file is saved wherever you choose (for example, the Files app). Keep it somewhere safe, because it contains your study data.
8. What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your information.
- We don't show ads or use advertising identifiers.
- We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We don't use analytics or crash-reporting services that collect your study data.
9. Keeping and deleting your data
- Erase everything: Profile → Settings → Data & privacy → Erase All Data removes your data from this device and from your iCloud.
- Delete your account: Profile → Settings → Account → Delete Account.
- Stop using Sign in with Apple: iOS Settings → your name → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple → Ruby.
- Subscription records: Our subscription service keeps purchase records while they're needed to provide the subscription and meet legal and tax obligations. Email us to request deletion.
Deleting the app removes data stored on the device. Data in your iCloud stays there until you erase it in Ruby or remove it in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the EU/UK, the CCPA in California or India's DPDP Act), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict how it's processed. Most of your data is already in your hands on your device. For anything we or our subscription service hold, email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
11. Security
Your data is protected by your device's security, Apple's Keychain and iCloud's encryption. Information sent to the subscription service is encrypted in transit. No method is 100% secure, but we keep what leaves your device to the minimum.
12. Children
Ruby is made for college and university students. It isn't directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app.
